How to enable Enhanced Tracking Protection in Ecosia for iOS
Ecosia for iOS features Enhanced Tracking Protection, which uses a list by Disconnect to block advertising, social media, analytics trackers, cryptominers, and fingerprinters. This reduces targeted ads and prevents browsing tracking. Users can customize protection by deactivating it for specific sites or choosing between Standard or Strict levels.

What are unnecessary trackers?
Unnecessary trackers, like scripts or cookies, collect online behavior data without aiding website function. Primarily for advertising, profiling, or analytics beyond service delivery, these third-party trackers are blocked when tracking protection is enabled, resulting in enhanced privacy, speed in browsing, while keeping essential site features functional.
How to turn off Tracking Protection?
Enhanced Tracking Protection is on by default for additional privacy. To turn it off for all websites:
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the menu button (the menu will be at the top right if you're using an iPad):
- Tap Settings in the menu panel.
- Tap Tracking Protection.
- Slide the switch next Enhanced Tracking Protection to turn it on or off .
- When you turn it on, choose the level of protection you want:
- Standard: protects you from social media trackers, cross-site trackers, cryptominers and fingerprinters.
- Strict: this includes the Standard level of protection and also stops known tracking content such as videos, ads and other content that contains tracking code. Pages load faster but this setting can also block some website functionality. If this happens, see below how to turn off Tracking Protection for a specific site.
