How to submit a bug report

Software isn’t perfect—and that’s okay! Ecosia can sometimes run into bugs or unexpected issues. This is normal and part of how technology evolves.

Our team is always working to make improvements, but your feedback plays a crucial role. If you've spotted something that doesn't seem right, thank you for taking the time to let us know. 

Before reporting a bug 

Try the following steps before reaching out to us:

  • Make sure your browser or extension is up to date 
  • Follow our troubleshooting guide and clear your browser cache and cookies
  • If you run into issues with sites not displaying correctly on the Ecosia desktop browser, try to disable the privacy panel
  • Check if any third party extensions, VPNs are in place which might be causing the issue
  • Check if the issue is with Ecosia and not related to a certain website. 

If the issue persists, it’s time to report it.

What to include in your bug report?

If possible, please submit your bug report in English, as our team mainly communicates in this language.

The more details you can give us, the better we can investigate. You can use the template below:

Subject: Bug Report - Name issue

Device Type: find it in your device settings

  • MacBook, iPhone X, Pixel X

Operating System: find it in your device settings

  • iOS 14, android 13, Windows 11, macOS Catalina

Browser Version: find it in your browser settings

  • If you use an Ecosia Browser: E.g. Ecosia android 12.1.0  , Ecosia iOS11.1.1 -
  • Or if you use an other browser: E.g. Chrome Version 136.0.7103.114, Firefox X, Safari

What is the issue?

A detailed, clear description of the issue, when it occurred first and if it is exclusively on Ecosia

What steps can we try to recreate?

E.g.: When performing a search on the search result page, I would expect XY, but Z is happening

Send a screenshot or screen recording

It is always easier to understand an issue, when we see what you're seeing

How to report a bug?

Please use the provided template and email us via techsupport[at]ecosia.org

What happens after your bug report? 

  • You’ll receive an email confirmation, which will include the troubleshooting steps again.
  • Our support team will review and may reach out with follow up questions
  • Confirmed bugs will be added to our backlog, prioritized and addressed in future updates.
